Berry Place and the Happy Machine!

Berry Place is proud to have been involved in such a unique retail project for the re-opening of the recently refurbished UNIQLO store on Regent Street.

The Happy Machine is the centrepiece of a creative and innovative marketing strategy to draw consumers to the re-launch of UNIQLO's London store. The machine's trapdoors dispense enticingly cut priced garments every hour, tempting people to make repeat visits to the store so they can bag the best deals. This not only creates a regular influx of customers but also has the potential of getting people talking about UNIQLO.

Creative agency Rosie Lee approached Berry Place to build the Happy Machine which was constructed from aluminium extrusion and acrylic, and branded with vinyl graphics. Berry Place developed the client's proposal into a functional unit, including the electronics for the countdown timer and alarm system, and installed the display in store within a 10 day deadline.

UPDATE: The House that Berry Built

Back in May 2008 Berry Place supplied a scaled down model of an environmental house on behalf of Talkback Thames TV for Kevin McCloud, presenter of Grand Designs on Channel 4 to be shown at Grand Designs Live at the ExCel in London.

This model was made from a mixture of materials to suggest various construction methods to be used on the real house - known as 'The House That Kevin Built' - which McCloud built in just six days from recycled materials using traditional and cutting edge techniques. Over 5 million viewers a night saw the build. THTKB was Europe's first prefabricated building made entirely of organic, compostable material. It was also the UK's first A+ rated dwelling.

The project has come a long way since Grand Designs Live 2008 with the widespread involvement of Brighton & Hove City Council, the Building Research Establishment, the construction industry's research & consultancy organisation, and the University of Brighton.

Brighton-based building contractors, The Mears Group have just completed Phase One of the rebuilding of The House That Kevin Built (THTKB) on the University of Brighton's Faculty of Art campus at Grand Parade. This time the construction process will be slowed down from 6 days to three months so that it can involve school children (primary & secondary), students and anybody else who wants to help. The University will also be holding presentations and workshops around the ideas associated with the project; ideas such as building with so-called waste-products as well as the original organic matter.

Berry Place is honoured and proud to have been involved from such an early stage and encourages donations to the worthy cause.

For Everything Else There's... Berry Place!

MasterCard rolls out a series of city-wide rewards programmes as it relaunches its 'Priceless' marketing campaign. One such reward programme is 'Priceless London' - a series of partnerships with attractions, hotels and restaurants, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Southbank Centre and the Society of London Theatre.  Award-winning actress Sheridan Smith, singer and fashionista Nicola Roberts, acclaimed designer Giles Deacon and masses of crowds celebrated the launch by unveiling a miniature (but still large!) 3D version of the Capital.

Berry Place was commissioned by The Stretch to build seven iconic buildings, including scaled-down models of the Victoria & Albert Museum, Southbank Centre, Palace Theatre, London Eye, Tower Bridge and Big Ben. Berry Place pulled out all the stops and delivered the completed project on time in just ten days!

Berry Place fights climate change with clever contraption for London cabs

BERRY PLACE fights climate change with Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts in a new initiative with London cabs.

Berry Place was recently involved in the Smarter Cab Drivers study undertaken by the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (RSA), an environmental initiative to help fight climate change. Within two weeks London cabbies cut fuel consumption by 12%.

The project involved a small wobbling "spring-o-meter" placed on the dashboard, which sounds a beep if the cabbie brakes too harshly or accelerates too aggressively. This clever contraption was designed and built by Berry Place.

If continued over the course of a year, taxi drivers could each be in line to save £600 a year, or the equivalent of 200kg of carbon, in the case of a new diesel car, the Royal Society claims.
