Barefoot Wine - Scales of Gra-TOE-tude
This year marks the ninth instalment of the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project in the UK, which has seen over six thousand volunteers remove approximately thirteen tonnes of marine litter from fifty-two beaches across the UK – including Brighton, Southend, Whitley Bay and Portobello Beach.
This year Berry Place created oversized scales in collaboration with Mischief PR. The 'Scales of Gra-TOE-tude' were used to weigh the amount of litter collected against its weight in wine.
Several important aspects were taken into consideration when creating the scales. Firstly, we needed to ensure we were using the most environmentally-conscious processes possible, including eco-friendly materials and water-based paints. Secondly, we were aware that the scales would need to potentially stand on an uneven surface - with added weight. Finally, we needed to ensure the scales could be dismantled for easy portability.
Olga Senkina, Barefoot Wine Marketing Director said of the event "we think there’s nothing better than to spread local love and are eager to head to Brighton to help the local community clean up their beach. I am sure the fun competitive element will encourage volunteers to collect even more litter than last year. Of course, we will celebrate the hard work of all the volunteers by raising a toe-st with our Barefoot Wine!"
More than a beach clean these events are about fun and enjoyment, with competitions and a lot of wine!
