MASS OF TIME
"Mass of Time,” is a beautiful and original conceptual instrument that lets you ‘touch’ and ‘feel’ time as solid matter.
Commissioned by Clarks and The Halo Trust, designed by Kacper Hamilton Studio and produced by Berry Place, the innovative and unusual “Mass of Time” timepiece has recently finished a global tour of exhibitions (Frieze NY, Design Shanghai and Milan’s Salone del Mobile), with all proceeds from its upcoming auction going to The Halo Trust charity, a UK-based organisation committed to removing "explosive remnants of war” (unexploded ordnance) from communities around the world.
"Mass of Time" weighs predefined periods of time using a set of scales and a sand timer. Each machined aluminium weight allows one to measure three, five or ten minutes. The process starts with a chosen weight/time placed on one side of the scales, the timer is then set in motion by turning the stopcock, allowing the sand to flow into the brass bowl. When the needle is balanced, the designated time has elapsed.
The piece comes presented in a custom made flight case, divided into neatly separated components.
