James and Hugh leave Berry Place

Last week saw the departure of James Chappell and Hugh Kelly from Berry Place. James had been with us since 1997 and Hugh since 2004. Both James and Hugh were - and forever will be - a core part of the Berry Place family and we wish them all the best and look forward to seeing them at the office soon!

New Blades 2011

On 16 June, Berry Place sponsored ‘Best Product Model’ category, for a second year at New Blades. An exhibition of graduating students work from model making university courses across the country, held every year at London’s Holborn Studios.

It is an extremely beneficial event for model making companies and students alike, for discovering and recruiting new talent, while giving the graduates the opportunity to introduce them-selves to many facets of the industry.

We proudly presented Alex Blackledge of the University of Hertfordshire with ‘Best Product Model’ for his very nicely finished Ferrari miniature.

The quality of finish can make or break a model, even if it is well made, and we felt Alex achieved both to a very high standard, demonstrating a skills base and materials knowledge essential in industrial product modeling.

Alex (middle) receives a cheque for £100 and a set digital verniers courtesy of Berry Place.

STARS - Impact Awards 2011

The Stars foundation’s annual ‘Impact Awards’ recognise excellence in services provided to disadvantaged children in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, supporting these organisations to help them grow and ensure they are able to continue improving children’s health, education and protection for further generations to come.

Berry Place created the awards themselves from specially cast, gold tinted acrylic, with the text and graphic laser engraved.

Extraordinary Heroes

On November the 12th, The Lord Ashcroft Gallery ‘Extraordinary Heroes’ opened to the public with a display of 241 Victoria & George crosses.  In a new gallery space at the top of London’s Imperial War Museum, Berry Place installed a number of models to help tell the stories of some of the recipients of these medals.

In conjunction with Casson Mann as exhibition designers and Scena Projects as main contractors, Berry Place were initially involved in costing a number of items which gradually became refined down to half a dozen or so showpieces, many of which would be rigged above visitors heads.

Our contribution included a 9ft long aerial bomb, an aluminium Centurion tank, a 6ft wingspan Lancaster Bomber, a butterfly case full of tiny model planes, a scaled replica police car and a 15ft long German airship.

The gallery is due to be open for 10 years and is the largest display of it’s kind anywhere in the world.

Telefonica / O2 Reception

Berry Place have recently been working with the Brand Experience Agency Ice London, creating and installing a number of interior branding projects at Telefonica-O2’s new multi million pound headquarters in Slough.

CNC machined and laser cut acrylic text combined with hand sculpted 3D elements were incorporated into installations in the boardroom, offices and reception area to add the finishing branding touches to these environments.

Once created, the Berry Place team completed the installation of the branding components out of office hours to avoid disruption to the busy working environment.
